Configuring a bright.net Dial – Up Connection with Windows© CE

Switch on your Windwos© CE system, It is highly recommended that you plug in AC Power , and plug the modem in.

Click on Start, Programs.

Double Tapping on the 'Communications' folder to open it.

Double Tap the 'Remote Networking' icon to open it.

Double tap on the Make New Connection icon.

Enter bright.net for the name of the connection. Select 'Dial-Up Connection'.

Clicking 'Next' will bring up the 'Select a modem:' screen, It is a good idea to have already plugged in your hardware, so that Windows CE will know about it, In the example a Nokia DTP-II version 2 pcmcia modem is used. Enter the appropriate bright.net access number.

Clicking on the 'Configure' button will take you to the modem configuration. Clicking 'TCP/IP Settings' button will take you into the TCP/IP configuration.

The defaults should work in the 'Port Settings' and 'Call Options' screens, The Nokia DTP-II version 2 is a cellular modem and maximum speed is 9600 so the speed the HPC talks to it running at 19200 and it works just fine.

Now we can go into the 'TCP/IP Settings' screen and make a couple of changes notably those of DNS server’s addresses.

As you can see we’ve entered the IP Numbers for our DNS server. Tapping 'O.K.' should take you back to the 'Remote Networking' program group.

Double Tap on the 'bright.net' icon to launch your connection to bright.net.

Enter your bright.net username and password and put a check in the 'Save password' box. Click the 'Connect' button.

The 'Opening Port' windows appears showing modem initialization progress.

Dialing you local bright.net access number.

You are connected to bright.net!

If you don’t get the 'User Authenticated' then you are not logged on to bright.net.

This example connection to bright.net completed just fine and we can now 'Hide' the box to do such things as e-mail and web browsing.

If it didn’t work for you first time try the following.

On the 'Dial-Up Connection' screen click on the 'Configure' button.

On the 'Port Settings' tab put a check in the 'Use terminal window after dialing' box and click the 'OK' button.

Double tap on your bright.net icon.

It dials in the same except this time except we do not need to enter anything in the 'User Name:' and 'Password:' fields.

The screen will clear and you may be presented with a blank screen, press the 'Return' key to wake it up, then login with your bright.net username and password.

Press the 'OK' button in the top right hand corner of the screen when you see what appears to be garbage (Like above)

If you don’t hit the 'OK' button within 20 seconds of seeing the PPP negotiation on the screen the connection will timeout and you will not connect.

Shortly after the 'User Authenticated' window is displayed you should see the 'Device Connected' window.

Congrats! You are connected! Mail configuration is coming soon!
