Windows ME - System Restore

Want to go back in time with your PC? Well you now can in Windows ME.

Listed below are the steps to be able to open and use the System Restore.

To open the System Restore:
1. Click on Start.
2. Programs.
3. Accessories
4. System Tool’s
5. System Restore

We are now in the System Restore. Now lets take a look at just how to use this program.


You will see 3 options on the 1st screen:

1. Restore my PC to an earlier time.
2. Create a restore point.
3. Undo my last restoration.


We will now walk though each of the 3 options listed above.



Restore my PC to an earlier time:

1. Place the dot in Restore my PC to an earlier date and time.
2. Click next at the bottom

The calendar on the screen displays in BOLD all the dates that have restore points available.

A. Select a BOLD date on the calendar and then select one of the available restore points from the list of dates and times to the right hand side. Click Next.
B. Click OK to the message window that opens. Click Next
C. You will now see a red bar moving across the screen. When this bar stops you will be asked to reboot the PC. Tell it yes. The PC will reboot by itself at this point
D. When the PC has rebooted, the restore complete screen will open up. You then can click OK to close the System Restore.



How to create a restore point with System Restore:
You will need to follow the 1st seven (7) steps list for opening the System Restore.
Then:

A. Place the dot into create a restore point. Click Next.
B. Type in any name you would like for this restore point. Click Next.
C. Confirm the new restore point and click OK.



How to use System Restore to undo your last restore:
1. You will need to follow the 1st seven (7) steps list for opening the System Restore.
Then:
A. Place the dot into Undo last restoration. Click Next.
B. Click OK to the window that opens
C. You now see the date and time of your last restore. Click Next.
D. You will see a red bar moving across the screen. When this bar stops you will need to click OK at the bottom. The PC will reboot for you.


You may want to check and see if the System restore is turned on or off.

3. Control Panel
4. Double Click on the System icon
5. Click on the Performance Tab
6. Click on File System in the lower left corner
7. Click on the trouble shooting tab
8. If you want to disable the System Restore then place a check in the box to disable it.
a.)If there is a check in the box and you want the System Restore to work then remove the check.
9. Click Apply then Close
10. You will need to Click Close for a 2nd time.
11. You will now be ask to reboot the PC Click Yes.
