Checking Your Dial
Up Networking (DUN) settings
|
On
your desktop, look for the icon labled My Computer
Once you find it, double click it so it opens up.
|
 |
|
Now
we want to find an icon that looks like a folder, it is labled Dial-Up
Networking.
Once you find it double click it so it opens up.
|
 |
| Now
we want to find the Connection Icon that you use to connect to bright.net.
Yours may not be named bright.net |
 |
| Once
we find the icon. We want to give it a single click, just to highlight
it. |
 |
| Once
we highlight the icon. We want to click on File then select Properties.
If Properties is greyed out, or you can't click on it, repeat the step
above. |
 |
|
Now
it should have opened up to this screen. Notice that there are four
(4) tabs across the top, your may only have 3. This is the General tab
that we are on.
Make
sure that there is not a check in the
Use area code and Dialing Properties box. (Unless you would absolutely
need to dial the area code to reach the access number, but that is usually
not the case).
Then
verify that your access number is correct.
Once
we have verified the information on this tab click on the tab labled
Server Types.
(Don't
click the OK button at the bottom...Yet)
|
 |
Now
it should have opened up to the Server
Types
tab.
Make
sure that there is not a check in the Log on to network box.
You only want two (2) checkmarks on this entire screen.
They
should be in the boxes
Enable software compression
TCP/IP
Once
that we have only these two boxes selected we want to click the button
to the lower right labled
TCP/IP
Settings
(Don't
click the OK button at the bottom...Yet) |
 |
|
Now
it should have opened up to the TCP/IP Settings screen. We want to make
sure that there is a dot in the very top circle labled Server assigned
IP address.
Then
we want to be sure that the fourth (4) circle from the top, labeled
Specify name server addresses has a dot in it also. If the dot
is in there then we want to verify that we have the correct Primary
DNS number, 209.143.0.10.
If
you have 205.212.123.10 that is just an older number that still works
fine, but you may want to update to the newer number.
If
you have a Secondary DNS number, you may want to write it down then
remove it and replace it with Zero's (0) like we have done, to see if
it runs better without it, some systems do.
After
we have done this we want to make sure that we have checkmarks in both
of the boxes at the very bottom.
When we complete this lets hit OK - that will take us back to Server
Types.
|
 |
Now
it should have returned to the Server Types tab.
Click on Scripting tab at the top.
(Don't click the OK button at the bottom...Yet) |
 |
Now
it should have switched to the Scripting tab.
It should appear exactly like ours does to the right. If there is anything
in the File name box, remove it, especially if you are having trouble
connecting or if it takes a long time to connect.
Then if you have a Multilink tab click on the Multilink tab at the top.
(Don't click the OK button at the bottom...Yet)
If you don't have a Multilink tab, just click OK
|
 |
Now
it should have switched to the Multilink tab.
It should appear exactly like ours does to the right. Make sure that there
is a dot in the top circle
Do not use additional devices
Then Click OK at the bottom |
 |
Now
you will want to close all open windows and reboot/restart your computer before
connecting to bright.net.
